Wichita State University – Charles Koch Arena
Charles Koch Arena is home to the Wichita State Shockers men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams. Dondlinger & Sons built the original arena, Henry Levitt Arena, in 1955. The unique Lamella Dome was the first of its kind, the circular design of the arena gave nearly every fan a clear line of site and put the seats close to the action. As a result, it was quickly nicknamed “The Roundhouse,” a name that has stuck to this day.
At the outset of the project, popularly known as the “Roundhouse Renaissance,” it was determined that the original structure could be saved and renovated into the modern 10,500 seat arena you see today. A new structure was added to the north and east, which contained two practice courts, locker rooms, weight training facilities and coaches’ offices.
