Keeper of the Plains

The Keeper of the Plains stands at the confluence of the Big and Little Arkansas Rivers and can be accessed via two bow-and-arrow inspired cable-stay bridges. These bridges are the only ones of their kind in the state of Kansas. The statue was raised onto a 30-foot-high base made of a concrete structure covered with artificial rock. The artificial rock formation was based on moldings taken from the Castle Rock formation in western Kansas. The 44-foot statue is surrounded by Interpretive Plaza which describes the Plains Indian way of life with larger-than-life artifacts and descriptions, hidden speakers and traditional plant life.
