WSU Promise Bridge

The project included a 300-foot-long pedestrian bridge over an existing lake, which connects Wichita State’s Main Campus to the Innovation Campus. The bridge is constructed using concrete abutments and piers with structural steel framing, and a concrete deck. The Promise Bridge features a unique ‘Y’ shape constructed which creates an observation deck supported by an architectural concrete prow, for students to sit and utilize the wi-fi that is available. The bridge incorporates a composite deck infill and seating both along the curve of the bridge, and the observation deck. LED track lighting was used to follow the curvature of the bridge and railing to light the walking surface and glass fiber reinforced concrete panels below.
